A third set of human remains, all apparently belonging to the same woman, was found Thursday morning at a water treatment plant in Carson.

A pelvis and legs were first found this month at the Joint Water Pollution Control Plant in the 24500 block of South Figueroa Street in Carson. They were recovered from a bin that separates solid materials and debris from liquid, authorities said.

Officials with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office said the upper torso of what authorities believe is the same woman was found 30 miles away at the San Jose Creek Water Reclamation Plant on Workman Mill Road in unincorporated Bassett near Whittier.

A third set of remains was found Thursday at the Carson plant. Los Angeles County sheriff’s Deputy Irys Alvarez said homicide investigators were treating all the remains as one case.

The woman’s body probably entered the sanitation system somewhere in the San Gabriel Valley, authorities have said.

Don Avila, a spokesman for the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County, said the two plants — in Bassett and Carson — are interconnected.
